The South East of England boasts some of the most prestigious horse racing venues in Europe, with several key events that define the British sporting and social calendar hosted at its’ 11 high-class racecourses.
Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire is one of the region’s Crown Jewels, home of the world-renowned Royal meeting each and every June. It also acts as a dual-purpose venue, meaning that everyone is able to enjoy both Flat and Jump racing all year round.
In Surrey, Epsom Downs stages the legendary Betfred Derby Festival, featuring both the Oaks and the Derby (with the latter often described as being the most prestigious race run in the Northern Hemisphere.
Other major venues in the South-Eastern region of England include West Sussex’s Goodwood Racecourse, home to the Qatar Goodwood Festival (commonly known as “Glorious Goodwood”), and Sandown Park, which sees high-octane Flat and Jump action mixed throughout the calendar.
For those that consider themselves to be mainly fans of Jump racing, Kempton Park anchors the winter season with the Ladbrokes Christmas Festival, featuring the Grade 1 King George VI Chase, taking place shortly after Christmas on an annual basis. The region is also home to high-frequency tracks like Lingfield Park, the busiest in Europe with year-round all-weather racing, and scenic venues such as Windsor, Brighton, and Plumpton.
