Daryl Jacob came out on top of the January Jockey of the Month vote after a hugely impressive month, the highlight without doubt being the amazing 3,275/1 five-timer he rode at Wincanton.
Not many people have ridden a five-timer in racing ever and in Jump racing as well it’s an even more rare and special achievement.
The five-timer on 9th January also included a fantastic victory in the Grade 2 Paddy Power Dipper Novices’ Chase with Messire Des Obeaux.

The Wiltshire-based jockey didn’t stop there. He claimed a second Grade 2 win on board 25/1 shot The Cob in the Albert Bartlett River Don Novices’ Hurdle at Doncaster on Saturday 30th January.
Alongside the big days, Daryl won 10 races throughout the month taking him to 12th in the Jump Jockeys’ Championship.
Daryl Jacob won the January Jockey of the Month with 43% of the vote, Adam Wedge came second with 36% and Tom Scudamore in third with 22%.
On the Nick Luck podcast, reflecting on winning the award and his performance throughout January, Daryl said: “It’s huge winning the award, thank you to everyone who voted.”
“I’m sure there’s not many people who have ridden five winners in a day, it’s over Jumps and to do it for five different trainers as well. It was a special day.”
“It was one of those days, everything clicked. All the horses probably ran to their maximum or even slightly above themselves.”
“The top horses with owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede are running really well at the moment, it’s been a tricky season for everyone but we’re making the best of it. I feel very confident and feel very good about the way I’m riding at the moment.”
Daryl will be giving his ÂŁ500 charitable donation to Macmillan Cancer Support. A poignant choice of charity with it being World Cancer Day.
