The Pony Club is a great option to gain hands-on experience and learn all about horses and ponies in a safe and friendly environment.
What is The Pony Club?
The Pony Club is a worldwide equestrian youth charity which aims to educate young people and the public about horses and ponies. With fun and friendship at its core, The Pony Club brings together like-minded people, not just to learn how to ride, but also to learn how to care for a pony. It’s all about having a go and making life-long friends … whether they’ve got two legs or four!
Who is The Pony Club for?
The Pony Club is for anyone under the age 26 who has an interest in ponies and horses. No pony? No problem. There are some super ponies at Pony Club Linked Centres that you can have a go on! If you have access to a pony, a Pony Club Branch can offer lots of riding activities where you can hone your skills. The Pony Club provides an inclusive and welcoming space for everyone, whether you’ve ridden before, or you’re new to it all.
Where can you join The Pony Club?
There are Pony Club Centres and Branches nationwide. To find one near you, search here. If there isn’t a pony club near you, then you can look at the ‘where to ride’ section on the British Equestrian Federation website.
What type of things can you do in The Pony Club?
As well as educational training sessions, there are lots of sports you can get involved in. These include Pony Racing, Mounted Games, Show Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, Polo, Polocrosse, Endurance and Tetrathlon. There are also lots of non-riding activities available, so even if you don’t want to get on a horse you can still join in the horsey fun. You can find out more about all these activities here.
Can I get into racing through The Pony Club?
Yes! Pony Racing is one of the nine sports offered by The Pony Club. There are taster sessions, training days and, of course, race days.
There are lots of non-ridden options in The Pony Club. You can earn achievement badges, such as Fundraising, Pet Sense, Feeding, Public Speaking, Farming and even Camping! There are also competitions such as the Winter Triathlon, Quiz, Horse and Pony Care, and the art competition, as well as lots of volunteering opportunities which you can use to work towards the Young Equestrian Leaders Award (YELA).
Why choose The Pony Club?
Most riders at the Olympics were once Pony Club members. Through The Pony Club, you can progress from being a beginner to an advanced level, potentially even going into a career with horses or becoming a horse owner yourself. The Pony Club offers so many opportunities to young people interested in horses and there’s a path for everyone, even if you just want to socialise and have fun with ponies.
