Born in Kildare, Ireland, racing felt inevitable for Egan. His father is flat jockey John Egan, whilst his mother, Sandra Hughes, trained the 2015 Irish Grand National winner. His Grandfather, also trained in Ireland, whilst his uncle is Champion Jockey Richard Hughes, a feat Egan will be hoping to achieve one day. 

 In 2019, Egan signed a retainer with owner Prince Faisal with whom he saw great success in the saddle. Egan formed a strong partnership with Mishriff, which led to success in the International Stakes at York in 2022.  

At the end of 2023, Egan signed a retainer with Amo Racing as their first jockey, which has led to several Stakes victories together and promises to be a fruitful, transatlantic partnership moving into 2026 and beyond.
