What to wear

Unsure what to wear to the races? Here's the overarching guide for Jump racing in the winter months and Flat racing in the summer months.

Our guide of what to wear at the races for both men and women throughout the year.

Jump Racing

Jump racing is all about keeping warm and dry during the winter months. Many racecourses suggest that you dress for the weather, although in Premier Enclosures and Hospitality the dress code is still often smart casual so it is always worth checking.

Here’s a more detailed guide for what to wear at the races in winter for women including what’s more suitable for certain enclosures, what looks good and comfortable in all weathers as well as a guide to different parts of your outfit including shoes, scarves, hats, dress, coats etc.

For men, here’s a full guide on horse racing attire during the winter.

Flat Racing

During the summer Flat racing season you will be more likely to see the ladies in hats, fascinators and dresses. A strict dress code is only enforced at a handful of fixtures such as Royal Ascot, The Derby and Glorious Goodwood.

In the summer you are advised to dress for a smart occasion in Premier Enclosure, such as a wedding. However, in the Grandstand Enclosure it tends to be far more relaxed and you can dress casually. It is worth always checking the individual racecourse websites, though.
