Peter Scudamore MBE, affectionately known as “Scu,” was the dominant force in British jump racing during the 1980s and early 1990s, retiring as the most successful jockey in history at the time.
A record-breaking eight-time Champion Jockey (1982, 1986–1992), he was the first to ride more than 100 winners in a season, eventually shattering the single-season record in 1988/89 with a staggering 221 winners—a feat made all the more impressive as it was achieved before the era of year-round racing.
His career was defined by a legendary partnership with record-breaking trainer Martin Pipe, which yielded 792 of his 1,678 career victories. While major prizes like the Grand National and Cheltenham Gold Cup eluded him as a rider, he secured 13 Cheltenham Festival wins in total.
