Harry Skelton hits 100 in the Jockeys’ Championship

Harry Skelton reaches a landmark victory and closes the gap to Brian Hughes in the race to become Champion Jump Jockey.

Harry Skelton has closed the gap in the race to become Champion Jump Jockey following his 100th win of the campaign aboard Stepney Causeway at Catterick today.

Skelton is now just nine wins behind reigning Champion Jump Jockey Brian Hughes in the 2020/21 Jump Jockeys’ Championship, with the title race concluding on the bet365 Jump Finale at Sandown Park on Saturday 24th April.

Amongst the century of wins, the 31-year-old has secured eight Graded victories including three Grade 1 successes.

Two of those came as part of a magnificent double at Sandown Park on Saturday 5th December – claiming the Planteur At Chapel Stud Henry VIII Novices’ Chase aboard Allmankind and then the Betfair Tingle Creek Chase with Politologue.

Skelton then went onto the enjoy another Grade 1 victory aboard Shan Blue in the Ladbrokes Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton Park on Saturday 26th December.

Last month, Skelton recorded a massive 23 victories throughout February including two trebles, four doubles and a big race victory in the Grade 2 Kingmaker Novices’ Chase with Allmankind at Warwick which earned him a nomination for the February Jockey of the Month award.

96 of his 100 wins have come for his brother Dan Skelton who is currently is second in the 2020/21 Jump Trainers’ Championship which also concludes on Saturday 24th April.
