Enable loses the Arc but no love is lost

News | 7th October 2019

Enable and Frankie Dettori were denied a record-breaking third Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe as French horse Waldgeist pipped her on the line in testing conditions at Paris-Longchamp on Sunday.

The 2017 and 2018 winner was the hot favourite going into the race and she was a length clear entering the closing stages at Longchamp. However, Waldgeist with Pierre-Charles Boudot on board, was able to give French trainer Andre Fabre a record eighth Arc win. Despite the loss, British racing fans and indeed many racing fans around the world came together in support of Enable. To win two Arcs and come second in another is an incredible achievement in it’s own right. Connections have yet to decide her future, with a final swansong not ruled out. However, her legacy as one of the greats in the modern era was already secure and in the words of Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for owner Khalid Abdullah yesterday ‘we certainly don’t love her any less’.
