Joanna Mason comes from racing pedigree, raised in North Yorkshire and the granddaughter of legendary trainer Mick Easterby and daughter of David Mason, a point-to-point trainer. Joanna was exposed to horses from an early age, developing a passion that would eventually shape her career as she moved into adulthood.
While Mason was always around horses, her path to becoming a professional jockey was not conventional. She initially pursued studies outside the world of racing, attending university, where she earned a Masters in Sports Nutrition. After graduation, she briefly worked in physiotherapy. However, her connection to horse racing eventually drew her back to the sport.
After riding for 14 years as one of the top amateur jockeys in the country, Mason made a significant decision to turn professional in 2021.
Mason has ridden winners in both the Shergar Cup and the International Challenge in Saudi Arabia. Away from the racecourse Joanna has also competed in the Merkel Jockeys Jumping in 2023 and 2024 at The London International Horse Show.
