Frankie Dettori

Frankie Dettori with the Champion Stakes trophy

Lanfranco “Frankie” Dettori is one of the most charismatic and successful figures in the history of horse racing, having recently retired from the saddle in February 2026.

Over a glittering career spanning four decades, the Italian jockey became a household name beyond the sport, famous for his signature “flying dismount” and his record-breaking “Magnificent Seven” at Ascot in 1996, where he rode all seven winners on a single card.

Dettori’s professional journey was marked by dominant partnerships, most notably his 18-year tenure as the retained rider for the powerful Godolphin operation and his later prolific association with trainer John Gosden. He secured three British Champion Jockey titles (1994, 1995, 2004) and won every Group 1 race in Britain except for the July Cup. Internationally, he won nearly every major prize, including a record six victories in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and 15 wins at the Breeders’ Cup.
