Kingscote, Moore and Tudhope Nominated For June Jockey Of The Month

Features | 4th July 2022

These three jockeys have had a spectacular month in June. Winning some of the toughest Group 1 races as well as operating at a high level at the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting means all three are in with a shout! Vote for your June Jockey of the Month.

The three jockeys nominated for June Jockey of the Month 2022 are Richard Kingscote, Ryan Moore and Danny Tudhope.

Kingscote and Moore both tasted Classic glory whilst Tudhope performed superbly on the biggest stage at Royal Ascot. Find out more about each jockeys’ month below.

Ryan Moore has won the June Jockey Of The Month with 57% of the vote.

Richard Kingscote

Kingscote is having himself a fine season having notched 20 winners to date.

However, there will be no debating the best of those which came at the start of June in the Epsom Derby.

Given the ride on well-fancied prospect Desert Crown he must have felt he was in with a shot, however even he couldn’t have expected the ease in which the duo won the Classic.

After the race Kingscote said: “I think it’s quite surreal because as a jockey maybe you don’t see yourself among jockeys like that and it’s only through the support of other people that you’re able to do it.

“I think it took a lot of guts from Sir Michael and the owner to stick with me in a Derby, so I’m very grateful to them for supporting me and letting me ride a very good horse.

Ryan Moore

There are few who are able to celebrate continued success more than Moore.

It was no different in June as Coolmore’s main man won his fourth Oaks on board the well-fancied Tuesday. In an incredibly tight battle with Emily Upjohn, it was Moore that just managed to get his charge in front at the line.

Ryan continued to build on that success by having a typically successful Royal Ascot, where he celebrated his 70th winner at the meeting!

With seven wins across the meeting, including in the meeting’s premier race, the Ascot Gold Cup with improving stayer Kyprios, Moore secured the meeting’s top jockey award.

Danny Tudhope

Tudhope had a Royal Ascot to remember as he secured four winners over the course of the five days.

A superb victory with Dubai Future in the Wolferton Stakes was followed up with victory on six-year old Get Shirty in the Copper Horse Stakes. It was then the turn of speedy filly Dramatised in the Group 2 Queen Mary before Holloway Boy capped a brilliant week winning in the Chesham, a race that has been won by some top-class performers in recent years.

“It was a very good week,” Tudhope said. “You’re hoping they run well, but to come away with four winners made it a great meeting.

“I get on well with the track, it’s a hard one to ride and it has taken me a good few years to get used to it. It’s difficult, I’m a northern jockey and I don’t go down there very often, and it takes a long time to adapt to tracks like that. You’re going into the big races against the best jockeys and it takes time.”
