Four-time Champion Jockey, Richard Johnson has selected three magnificent racehorses for Great British Racing’s April Horse of the Month competition.
April saw the final month of the Jump season which culminated at Sandown Racecourse on 23rd April for the Bet 365 Jump Finale meeting.
To shine a spotlight on the amazing animals that power horseracing, Richard has selected three horses each month throughout the season for public vote. He’s had his work cut out each month pin pointing the up and coming stars of the sport and Jump racing’s biggest performers.
Ahoy Senor has won the April Horse Of The Month award with 88% of the vote!
Trainer: Lucinda Russell
Jockey: Derek Fox
Richard Johnson’s verdict: “His performance at Aintree was very impressive, it was a competitive race, and he showed his talent. He has had a really good season and I am delighted for Lucinda and Derek, who gave him a brilliant ride. This horse is certainly one to watch next year.”
Winner of the Coral Scottish Grand National Handicap Chase at Ayr Racecourse.
Trainer: Christian Williams
Jockey: Rob James
Richard Johnson’s verdict: “Win My Wings showed her determination and professional nature at Ayr when she won this testing race. She has improved all year and is a really exciting prospect for Christian and his team. She was a runaway winner, and I don’t think you could have spotted a better winner in a long distance race all season.”
Winner of the bet365 Celebration Chase at Sandown Racecourse.

Jockey: Harry Cobden
Richard Johnson’s verdict: “It was fantastic to see Greaneteen enjoying the track at Sandown again after winning the Tingle Creek in December. This horse is a joy to watch. When he finds his rhythm, it is hard to stop watching his every stride. He jumps well and puts on a top-class show, nothing short of professional.”
