David Bass enjoyed his first of those Grade 2 successes with Does He Know in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham on Friday 13th November, and then followed that up with victory aboard Imperial Aura in the Chanelle Pharma 1965 Chase at Ascot on Saturday 21st November.
Bass scoops the Jockey of the Month prize after receiving a commanding 57% of the vote, ahead of fellow nominees Harry Cobden (31%) and Daryl Jacob (13%) who also enjoyed impressive performances in November.
The 32-year old said: “It is very much a pleasant surprise to be named Jockey of the Month and I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me. I don’t think I’ve had a month as good as I did in November so it’s great for that to be recognised.
“It was a memorable month for me especially with the Grade 2 wins with Does He Know and Imperial Aura which were fantastic, but also the other wins are just as important, and you get just as much pleasure out of them.
Thank you to all the trainers and owners that have continued to support me and hopefully I can continue riding winners for the rest of the season.”
Amongst his 18 victories in November, David Bass claimed a double on the day of the Imperial Aura win at Ascot by also winning the Coral Hurst Park Handicap Chase with First Flow. This was one of four doubles for Bass during the month, with the remaining coming at Market Rasen, Hereford and Kempton Park.
The Wiltshire-based jockey also enjoyed victories at Carlisle, Exeter, Warwick, Ayr, Taunton and Doncaster during November. Bass has secured 40 wins during the season so far and is therefore 8th in the 2020 Jump Jockeys’ Championship
