Callum Pritchard did not have a conventional route into racing, growing up as a talented scrum half in the Rhondda region of Wales, playing against several future Wales Internationals. However, rugby started to take a back seat for Pritchard at around the age of 14, when Pritchard took out his license so he could ride his girlfriend’s horse. 

Pritchard was riding out for renowned trainer Phillip Hobbs at Sandhill stables when his with impressive statistics in the point-to-point world. Even when he stepped up as a National Hunt jockey under rules, his progress was not expected to be anywhere near as dramatic as is has been. 

In his short career so far, Pritchard has already carded some impressive victories, most notably the Badger Beer Handicap Chase in 2025 for trainer and fellow Welshman, Sam Thomas. The 2025/26 season would see Pritchard finish second in the Champion Conditional title, despite a mid-season injury blow.
