About Great British Racing

Great British Racing is the central promotional and marketing body for British Horseracing. Our aims are to broaden racing’s popularity and, in doing so, help increase engagement with and participation in the sport.

Racing is the second biggest spectator sport in the country, with around six million people attending each year, and last year accounted for three of the top ten best-attended sporting events in the country.

Our role is to widen the sport’s fan-base, help grow revenue streams, and maintain British racing’s position internationally as the best in the world.

Our approach is focused on maintaining and improving the long-term health and vitality of the sport, combined with frequent, sustainable, reactive campaigns and initiatives to build and maintain engagement.

An upcoming example of this will be a National Kids Campaign this summer to promote the value-for-money day out that racing offers for the whole family given that under-18s are admitted free to the vast majority of racecourses across the country.

We liaise closely with all of racing’s stakeholders and work with all racecourse teams to improve the customer raceday experience and build insights to recommend improvements.

Promoting the thrill of ownership, which is so important for the future health of the sport, remains a core focus for us. We are responsible for the administration of a new shared ownership hub, In the Paddock, which aims to provide prospective owners with the necessary information about becoming involved in shared racehorse ownership for the first time.

By positioning horseracing positively, we also have a role in attracting new sponsors to the sport and, in 2015, the Stobart Group invested in the Flat and Jumps Jockey Championships, which has enabled us to be more effective in how we promote the stars of the sport.
