Sir Anthony Peter “AP” McCoy OBE is widely considered to be the greatest National Hunt jockey in history, having maintained an unprecedented dominance over jump racing for two decades.
Throughout a professional career spanning from 1992 to 2015, he was crowned Champion Jockey for 20 consecutive seasons, winning the title every year he competed as a professional. McCoy amassed a world-record 4,358 career winners, nearly 1,500 more than his nearest rival, and set a single-season record of 289 wins in 2001/02.
Known for his relentless determination and notorious pain threshold, he rode through hundreds of injuries, including broken vertebrae and punctured lungs. His most iconic victory came in the 2010 Grand National on Don’t Push It at his 15th attempt, a win that helped him become the first jockey to be named BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Since retiring in April 2015, he has been knighted for his services to the sport and remains a prominent figure as a racing pundit and advisor.
