The Best Dressed at Glorious Goodwood
The Qatar Goodwood Festival, also known as ‘Glorious Goodwood’ has long been one of the fashion highlights of both the racing and non-racing calendar.
Goodwood racecourse is one of prettiest courses in Britain with the magnificent backdrop of rolling Sussex countryside, and the garden party atmosphere allows individual style to shine through while still capturing the essence of British racing’s elegance.
However simple or extravagant an outfit, individual style and true sophistication can always be made clear.
Best Dressed over the years
Last year’s Best Dressed seemed to be a white and blue affair with all finalists wearing these colours. This is the runner up in the Best Dressed of 2016, however, there are a number of ways to make an impact at Goodwood.
Monochrome is classic for a reason and a sure way to ensure being right on target with your look at Goodwood.
A splash of colour from a single accessory can be made even more prominent by keeping the rest of the outfit simple. Seen here with a bright red hat and white dress, the perfect red lip brings the look together.
Fascinators can make just as much of a statement. Here a single colour is picked from an outfit, such as a pattern on a dress or the colour of the shoes.
Statement hats are what fashion at the races is all about and sometimes the perfect hat can say it all. Keeping hair simple keeps all the attention on the hat and stops any style going flat.
Shoes can make or break an outfit but remember you are likely to be on your feet for a lot at the races so picking something comfortable is vital. Alternatively you can always put a pair of flats in your bag.
For the men it can be tough to stand out in a jacket and tie but you certainly couldn’t miss Chris Tarrant in this outfit!
A more subtle but still stylish jacket is an easy way to fit in perfectly at Goodwood, as done here by trainer Scott Dixon. Perfectly tied together with one of Goodwood’s official Panama hats.
The Richmond Enclosure
For the Ladies it is suggested that a summer wedding outfit might lend itself to Goodwood, a hat or fascinator is required but be as adventurous as you like. For the Gentlemen a jacket and tie is required for the Richmond Enclosure, it should be relaxed and elegant. Jeans are not permitted in this enclosure.
The Gordon Enclosure
It is a more informal feel than the Richmond Enclosure but no less elegant. Jackets and ties for the men are not compulsory, however, dressing to impress is always suggested.
The Lennox Enclosure
It is the most relaxed enclosure at the racecourse. It has no formal dress code but of course why not use the excuse to pull out that favourite smart dress and hat or jacket you’ve been saving for the perfect occasion.
Please note – bare chests and fancy dress are not allowed in any enclosure. Gentlemen are also discouraged from wearing shorts and sleeveless tops in the Gordon Enclosure.
Don’t forget to use #FeelGlorious at Goodwood this week.
