Un De Sceaux can equal Ascot record this Saturday
Un De Sceaux could become Ascot’s joint highest Grade 1 winner this weekend should he land Saturday’s Clarence House Chase – third Grade 1 at the course!
The other horses to win three top level races over obstacles at Ascot are Baracouda (his fourth Long Walk Hurdle was won at Windsor) and Reve De Sivola. They all won three Long Walk Hurdle hurdles at the Berkshire track.
Un De Sceaux may be one of the most under-rated chasers of his generation. An incredible record of 10 Grade 1 victories over the last five years across five different racecourses certainly speaks for itself.
At 12 years old now, Un De Sceaux maybe past his prime but he still has the talent to take the spoils on Saturday and he absolutely loves it around Ascot.

The main rival for Un De Sceaux and the favourite for this year’s Clarence House is Defi Du Seuil, and deservedly so after a fantastic return of form in the last year. Defi Du Seuil has beaten top-class horses including Lostintranslation in the JLT Novices’ Chase and Politologue in the Shloer Chase, so he’ll be incredibly tough to beat here.
Although Un De Sceaux lost to Defi Du Seuil last time out in the Tingle Creek, it was only by a neck and the Willie Mullins star was closing in the final yards of the race.
The rematch is on and it’s set to be a thriller at Ascot.
What a race!
