Trio nominated for Jockey of the Month after September success

Jockey of the Month, September

Jockeys James Doyle, Cieren Fallon JR and Richard Kingscote have all been nominated for September’s Jockey of the Month competition, following their superb performances in the penultimate month of the 2019 Flat season, which culminates on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 19th October.

James Doyle

Doyle enjoyed a successful September which sees him maintain his position in the top five of the 2019 Flat Jockeys’ Championship with 78 wins so far this season.

12 of those 78 wins came during September, with the standout victory of those being his triumph in the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock Park aboard Hello Youmzain at the start of the month.

That race forms part of the 2019 QIPCO British Champions Series and Hello Youmzain now seems set to head for the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 19th October. Discussing that win, Doyle said: “Winning the Sprint Cup with Hello Youmzain was definitely the highlight of the month for me. It was a fantastic win.”

During the month, the 31-year-old was also victorious with Powerful Breeze in the William Hill May Hill Stakes during the William Hill St Leger Festival at Doncaster, and secured doubles at both Goodwood and Windsor.

On being nominated for Jockey of the Month, Doyle said: “It’s great to be nominated, and I would be grateful to anyone who votes for me.”

Cieren Fallon JR

Fallon JR, son of six-time Champion Jockey Kieren Fallon, secured a total of 15 wins during September, which has seen him rise eight victories clear of rival Sean Davis in the 2019 Champion Apprentice title race.

Amongst those 15 wins, Fallon JR notched a treble at Ffos Las, plus significant successes at Haydock Park aboard Time to Study in the Betfair Exchange Old Borough Cup and at Doncaster’s William Hill St Leger Festival with Oxted in the William Hill Portland Handicap.

Discussing his nomination, the 20-year-old said: “September was probably the most important and memorable month of the season and my career so far. To have those two wins in the big handicap’s at Haydock and Doncaster, has all been quite overwhelming.”

Richard Kingscote

Kingscote claimed 12 victories during September, the last of those being his 50th success of the season.

The most notable win of the month was his triumph in the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup, where he stormed to victory with 28/1 priced Angel Alexander, who is part-owned by now football-commentator, Michael Owen.

On that victory, Kingscote said: “It was fantastic to win the Ayr Gold Cup, it is a historic race and it was a great feeling to win it for the first time.

The 33-year-old enjoyed four victories at Haydock Park during September, including success with Great Scot in the Betfair Exchange Superior Mile Stakes and a win aboard Gifted Ruler at the end of the month which also meant Kingscote reached half a century of winners for the campaign.

On being nominated for September’s Jockey of the Month, he said: “I’m delighted to be nominated. I had some good wins throughout the month including the 50th of the season. I found a bit of form and I’m very pleased with how the month and season has gone so far.”
