Trio nominated for Jockey of the Month prize after amazing August’s
Oisin Murphy, Jim Crowley and Joe Fanning have all been nominated for August’s Jockey of the Month competition following their outstanding performances during the month.
Oisin Murphy enjoyed a remarkable August, securing 39 victories, which has seen him propel rival Daniel Tudhope in the 2019 Flat Jockeys’ Championship. The 23-year-old now sits on 127 wins for the campaign – 19 ahead of second-placed Tudhope.
Murphy kicked off the month in style, triumphing with the Japanese-trained, Deirdre, in the Qatar Nassau Stakes – a race which forms part of the 2019 QIPCO British Champions Series.

This was followed by another 38 successes in the month, including doubles at Newmarket, Haydock, Windsor, Kempton, Chelmsford and Salisbury. He also secured an impressive victory with Threat in the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes at York’s Ebor Festival.
On being nominated for Jockey of the Month, Murphy said: “August was a brilliant month for me, my agent has worked so hard to get me some great rides all year and that is paramount to the success. It all started with the win on Deirdre in the Nassau Stakes which was fantastic. Goodwood is a special place, I won the Sussex Stakes last year, and it was great to get another Group 1 win there this year.
“I appreciate all the support I have received this year, it is amazing, and I would be grateful to anyone who votes for me as Jockey of the Month.”
Jim Crowley secured two impressive victories with long-time partner, Battaash, during the month of August. Firstly, at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, where the pair became the first to win the King George Qatar Stakes on three successive occasions.
This was then followed by a sensational win in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival – also a race that forms part of the QIPCO British Champions Series.

The 2016 Champion Jockey also enjoyed success with Khaadem in the Unibet Stewards Cup and Enbihaar in the Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes on the final day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival.
Crowley went on to record a total of 22 victories in August, including trebles at both Kempton and Nottingham, whilst culminating in a win with Lavender’s Blue in the Atlanta Stakes at Sandown.
On his successful month, the 41-year-old, said: “I had a really good month and it’s nice to be nominated alongside two great jockeys in Oisin and Joe. The two wins on Battaash were huge wins for me personally, but there were several good wins across the month, like with Khaadem in the Stewards Cup and Enhibaar in the Lillie Langtry.”
Fanning, 48, reached a historic milestone in August, joining Frankie Dettori as the only other current flat jockey to have secured more than 2,500 wins in Great Britain.
The 2,500th win of Fanning’s career came at Redcar aboard Universal Gleam, and that was one of 16 wins for him during the month.

Amongst those victories, Fanning triumphed with King’s Advice at the Qatar Goodwood Festival in what was their eighth win together this season. He also enjoyed success with What’s The Story at the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival, and secured a tremendous treble at Carlisle.
On reaching the landmark and being nominated for Jockey of the Month, the Yorkshire-based jockey said: “I’m delighted to have been nominated. The 2,500th win was on the horizon for a while, so it was nice to reach it and a great achievement for me. To have two wins at the two big festivals with Kings Advice and What’s The Story was also fantastic.”
