On being nominated he said: “It’s great to be nominated for the Stobart Jockey of the Month. April was a fantastic end to another fantastic season for me. I always had my sights on 200 wins, so it was great to finally do that at Perth.

“To then end the month being crowned Stobart Champion Jump Jockey for the fourth year in a row, is again a moment I will never forget and what we continue to work so hard for.”

Sean Quinlan

Sean Quinlan totalled nine wins in April, taking his tally for the campaign to a career-best 61. Amongst the nine victories were three doubles – two of those coming at Perth and the other at Carlisle. However, the biggest win came at Ayr with 25/1 shot, Takingrisks, in the prestigious Coral Scottish Grand National.

On his successful month and season, Quinlan said: “It’s brilliant to have been nominated for April’s Stobart Jockey of the Month. It was a great end to a year that has been a revelation for me. I set a target of 50 wins at the start of the season and finished on 61, which is fantastic.

“To top that all off with the win in the Scottish Grand National, which is by far the highlight of my month, season and my career. Add to that, the double for both my trainers (Jennie Candish and Nicky Richards) at Perth, was truly amazing.”

Davy Russell

Irish-based, Russell and Tiger Roll entered the history books in April, as the first duo to win back to back Randox Health Grand National’s since Brian Fletcher and Red Rum in 1974 and 1975. Russell also enjoyed success earlier on in the day, with a win aboard Oruna in the Doom Bar Maghull Novices’ Chase.
