Three Top Jockeys Nominated for November Jockey Of The Month
Harry Cobden, Robbie Power and Ben Jones have all been nominated for November’s Jockey of the Month competition, following their standout performances during the month.
Harry Cobden enjoyed an excellent November with 14 victories seeing him progress to 7th position in the 2019/20 Jump Jockeys’ Championship with a total of 43 wins this season.
The standout win of those 14 would be Cyrname’s triumph in the Christy 1965 Chase at Ascot Racecourse beating Altior to the winning post and therefore ending the 19-race unbeaten run of Altior.
The 21-year-old also secured another notable victory shortly after that historic win with Cyrname – riding Capeland to victory in Gerard Bertrand Hurst Park Handicap Chase. He began the month with success aboard Give Me A Copper in the Badger Beers Silver Trophy Handicap Chase and ended the month with a delightful double at Newbury’s Ladbrokes Winter Carnival – succeeding with Danny Whizbang in the Ladbrokes John Francome Novices’ Chase and then winning the Ladbrokes Handicap Chase with Magic Saint.
Power began the month with a win aboard Lostintranslation in the Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase at Carlisle Racecourse, and the pair followed that up with success in the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park Racecourse.
The 37-year-old also enjoyed victory with Bold Plan in the Betfair Exchange Handicap Hurdle earlier on the same day, plus November saw Power secure wins with Reserve Tank in the John Romans Park Homes “Rising Stars” Novices’ Chase at Wincanton Racecourse, and success with West Approach in the BetVictor Smartcards Handicap Chase at Cheltenham Racecourse.
November 2019 will always be remembered as the month Ben Jones secured the biggest win of his career to date – triumphing with the Rasher De Counter in the prestigious Ladbrokes Trophy Chase at Newbury Racecourse.
That was one of seven victories for the 20-year-old in the month, taking him to 24 wins for the season and therefore third in the 2019/20 Champion Conditional Jockeys’ title race.
Amongst the other six successes for Jones was a win with Gumball in the Sodexo Handicap Hurdle at Ascot Racecourse at the beginning of the month. His other victories consisted of two wins at Hereford, plus wins at Ffos Las, Huntingdon and Wincanton
The vote takes place on Great British Racing’s Twitter page and will run from 12pm on Thursday 5th November until 4pm on Friday 6th November.
