See your heroes up close at the Betfair Newmarket Open Weekend
The Newmarket Open Weekend returns this year on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September. The weekend hosts an incredible line-up of activities and exclusive behind-the-scenes access, with a programme extended to cater for the event’s huge popularity in 2014.
Visitors will be able to see top equine athletes in training on the famous Warren Hill gallops on Saturday morning, as well as take part in guided tours of The National Stud, Newmarket Equine Hospital, and Tattersalls.
Saturday continues with a race meeting at the stunning Rowley Mile course, with trainers such as Sir Michael Stoute, William Haggas, and John Gosden having horses entered.
Sunday also has an action-packed schedule, with some of the world’s top trainers offering open access to their yards. This is visitors’ chance to get close to their racing heroes, as stars such as Saeed bin Suroor and Charlie Appleby will be allowing tours of their state-of-the-art facilities, with the chance to really get to know the backstage workings of these legendary international training grounds.
Sunday afternoon also plays host to yet more exciting activities at the Rowley Mile, including a Racing Personality Show Jumping competition – catch stars like Andrea Atzeni, Hayley Turner and Roger Varian as you’ve never seen them before! A Food and Drink festival will also be taking place over the weekend, and with local traders offering a great mix of foods and produce over the weekend, there’s sure to be something for everyone!
Proceeds from the weekend will go to The National Horseracing Museum, Racing Welfare and Magpas – The Emergency Medical Fund.
