Richard Johnson edges clear in hunt to be Champion Jump Jockey

15-time British Jump Jockeys’ Championship runner-up Richard Johnson has opened up a lead of 27 winners in the race to be crowned the 2015/ 2016 Champion Jump Jockey.

Johnson, who sits on 78 victories for the campaign, has taken advantage of the recent retirement of legendary rider AP McCoy to full effect and has now extended his lead over his nearest rival, Aidan Coleman.

The 38-year-old will be bidding to win his first senior championship title this season, after being crowned the Champion Conditional rider in 1995.

In the standings, Noel Fehily sits behind Coleman with 37 winners, with Tom Scudamore following closely behind on 35.
