AINTREE REACTION: Kalashnikov Battles Back To Earn First Grade 1 Success For Amy Murphy

Thursday April 4th 2019 will go down as a landmark day for trainer Amy Murphy and jockey Jack Quinlan. The duo brought up the first Grade One success of their careers with Kalashnikov’s victory in the Manifesto Novices’ Chase!

Kalashnikov battled hard through slow ground and managed to hold off the rallying La Bague Au Roi in the final few furlongs.

Victory would have tasted all the more sweater for Murphy and Quinlan after the disappointment at the Cheltenham Festival. Quinlan was full of praise for Kalashnikov and his trainer, “He (Kalashnikov) was tough, he traveled so well. Amy has got him back to his best!”

Murphy was beside herself with emotion in the aftermath of the race , “I lost my shoes out there on the track but somehow I’ve got everything intact! That was unbelievable and it’s so emotional. It was a fantastic ride by Jack and this horse is top class. I bang on and bang on about it but he really is.”

Spoiled with top performances in the big Grade One races

Pentland Hills confirmed himself as the number one in this year’s Juvenile division as he toughed it out to take the Grade One Doom Bar Anniversary Juvenile Hurdle. He maintained his unbeaten record over hurdles and claimed his second Grade One at the tender age of just four! Pentland Hills is a horse with a big future and already a player in the 2020 Champion Hurdle market.

In the Betway Bowl, Kemboy and Ruby Walsh reversed last month’s Gold Cup form and produced a hugely impressive performance blowing the rest of the field out of the water.

In the other big race of the day, Supasundae proved the toughest horse of the group as he ground out a battling victory in the Aintree Hurdle for Robbie Power and Jessica Harrington.

What a day and what a performance by Kalashnikov! Check up some of the best reaction below.
