Fallon Jr voted Jockey of the Month as he edges closer to Champion Apprentice Title
Jockey Cieren Fallon JR has been named Jockey of the Month following an impressive 15 victories during September that has also seen him edge closer to being named 2019 Champion Apprentice at QIPCO British Champions Day on Saturday 19th October at Ascot Racecourse.
Fallon JR, son of six-time Champion Jockey Kieren Fallon, has secured 48 wins to date this season and is currently sitting top of the table and eight wins ahead of Sean Davis in the 2019 Champion Apprentice title race.
He scoops the award after receiving a commanding 65% of the vote, ahead of fellow nominees James Doyle (20%) and Richard Kingscote (15%), who finished second and third respectively.
Amongst the 15 wins in September, Fallon JR notched up a tremendous treble at Ffos Las, plus significant successes aboard Time to Study in the Betfair Exchange Old Borough Cup at Haydock Park, and Oxted in the William Hill Portland Handicap on the final day of the William Hill St Leger Festival at Doncaster.
On being named Jockey of the Month, the 20-year-old said: “I’m overwhelmed by the support I’ve received all season and to now be voted as Jockey of the Month is incredible.
“September was probably the most important and memorable month of my year and my career so far. To have those two wins in the big handicaps at Haydock and Doncaster was an amazing feeling.
Fallon JR, born in Wigan, is now based with trainer William Haggas in Newmarket, and is dreaming of a strong finish to what has already been an exceptional breakthrough season which includes a win at the Qatar Goodwood Festival.
“It would be very hard to top September, but if I was to have a strong October and be crowned Champion Apprentice with a win on QIPCO British Champions Day, that really would be a dream come true!”
In winning the competition, Cieren Fallon JR is awarded £1,000 and has selected the Injured Jockeys’ Fund for his £500 charity donation of his choice.
