A Dose Of Festive Cheer At Ascot
With Christmas just around the corner and a brief three day break set to sweep the racing Industry, Ascot is all set to put on a final pre-Christmas spectacle.
The two day festival has always been famed for its fantastic balance of both festive cheer and high quality horse racing. Beginning tomorrow, the opening Friday has the enviable knack of throwing up some of the equine stars of the future with a pair of competitive novice Grade 2 races. Both the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Trial and the Noel Novices’ Chase are prestigious prizes that often prove to be stepping-stones to some of the bigger novice prizes when the Cheltenham Festival rolls around.
Following on from that, Saturday’s racing is Ascot’s most valuable racecard in their jumps season, with the Group 1 Long Walk Hurdle set to take centre stage. The 3 mile 1 furlong hurdle is steeped in history since its inaugural running in 1965 and has in recent years had strong links to the Grade 1 Stayers Hurdle during the Cheltenham Festival. Both Paul Nicholls’ great champion Big Buck’s and Colin Tizzard’s Thistlecrack have doubled up in the last 10 years and we may well see the emergence of another Cheltenham contender on Saturday afternoon.
Santa comes to #Ascot this weekend… make sure you’re in the Parade Ring at 11:15 to see his arrival! 🎅

A side from the racing, these two days are well known as a family day full of festive surprises visits from Father Christmas and his reindeer, story-telling from Mrs Christmas, pony rides, dodgems, a carol singing concert, festive cocktails, fine dining and free fairground rides. U18s Race Free and children eat for free, as well as enrolling in the Ascot Elf Academy at this wonderful family day. The two day long festival is truly an elegant, festive and uplifting day to celebrate with your nearest and dearest and start the Christmas Holidays with a bang!
Saturday’s racing will as always be covered on ITV4 from 1:30pm whilst tickets to either day can be purchased here.
