AP McCoy announced as Stobart Jump Jockeys’ Championship ambassador
20-time Champion Jockey and Jumps racing legend AP McCoy has been announced as an ambassador for the 2015/ 2016 Stobart Jump Jockeys’ Championship to help promote the current stars in the saddle.
McCoy, who won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2010 after guiding Don’t Push It to victory in the Grand National, will also be helping to design the new Champion Jump Jockey trophy after it was decommissioned following his retirement.
He said: “After the great ride this sport has given me over the past 20 years, I’m delighted to have been asked to be an ambassador for the season.
“I have been so lucky to share the weighing room with some fantastic personalities over the years and I’m really looking forward to helping promote the jump jockeys and highlighting what incredible athletes they are.
“I’m delighted to sit on the selection panel for the new Champion Jockey Trophy.
“I’m lucky enough to have been given the last trophy, so I’ll try and get some inspiration from that, and hopefully we can choose a nice design for the next generation of Champions.”
Andrew Tinkler, Chief Executive of Stobart Group said: “AP McCoy is synonymous with British racing and now that he has retired, having enjoyed a remarkable career, we’re delighted he has become an ambassador of the 2015/16 Stobart Jump Jockeys’ Championship.”
